Dog & Handler Evaluation
All training starts with an evaluation. Evaluations are critical when deciding the approach to take with solving a dog's problem or just basic training. Each dog is an individual and each handler is an individual as well. This assessment helps us determine a positive and supportive approach to both dog and handler to ensure successful training. During the assessment we:
- Check the dog's interaction with each member of the family
- Measure the reaction the dog gives in the presence of another dog and whether he or she is a quiet dog, hyper dog, or dominant dog. Of course there is no direct interaction just indirect presence.
- Observe what happens when the dog is loose with its handlers in a fenced yard to see its recall response.
- Observe how the dog and handlers react to different situations
- Assess the dog’s sensitivity level and reactions. Does it withdraw, become aggressive, suffer from anxiety or is he or she just the happy dog it should be?
- Assess the handler. Does the handler become frustrated, impatient, upset or angry or possibly fearful during a specific situation or interaction or is the handler supportive and confident?
